Omishima

The largest island in the Geiyo Islands is known as the “Island of the Spirits” and the “Island of Treasures” because it is home to Oyamazumi Shrine where visitors will find countless examples of armor and other designated national treasures.
The island also features a salt factory, art museums, hot springs, and the Tatara Shimanami Park.

Omishima Island

Omishima is the largest island in the Geiyo Islands.
The Oyamazumi Shrine, home to the Shinto deity of the Murakami Kaizoku,
can be found here.

Hyotanjima (Gourd Island)

The middle of the island is narrowed, forming a shape much like a gourd.
The island is home to a unique myth about the gods. *It is not open to the public. Please observe it from a distance.

The site of Amasaki Fort

The original fort occupied the entire island here.
It was rebuilt as a more modern fort after the Murakami Kaizoku left.

Oyamazumi Shrine renka poems
for the gods

These renka poems were dedicated at Oyamazumi Shrine.
Through them it is possible to learn of the high sophistication and culture of the pirates.

Cultural assets at the Oyamazumi Shrine

The patron gods of the pirates prayed for fortune and safety on the seas.
The giant camphor tree here is particularly famous.
The Treasure Museum features exhibits of weapons and armor.
