This was a leading pirate fort. The island here served as a natural stronghold in a particularly challenging location for sailors with complex swirling currents.
Mushi (Tsutomu) fort site and Nakato (Chuto) fort site
These sea forts were built in the center and east side of the Kurushima Strait to control it. They were abandoned in 1585. *It is not open to the public. Please observe it from a distance.
Kogayashiki and other nearby historical sites related to the Murakami Kaizoku
Here, the place names are reminiscent of typical fort towns from earlier times. The area is filled with cultural assets that speak of the prosperity of the age of the Murakami Kaizoku.
Historic artifacts from the Murakamis of Noshima Island
This collection includes the red “haori” jacket worn by Takeyoshi Murakami. These important artifacts are kept at the Murakami Suigun Museum in Imabari City.
Koyruji Temple is said to be the family temple of Yoshihiro Murakami. Yoshihiro’s grave is located not in the temple itself but on the slope of Kirosan Mountain.
