Oshima

This island has a long history in relation to the Murakami Kaizoku as the former home base of the Murakamis of Noshima Island.
One can learn about the adventures of the Murakami Kaizoku, who sailed through the Seto Inland Sea as though they owned it, through the exhibits at the Murakami Suigun Museum and the Suigun Race held every summer.

The site of Noshima Fort

This was a leading pirate fort.
The island here served as a natural stronghold in a particularly challenging location for sailors with complex swirling currents.

Yawatayama

Yawatayama is a mountain on Omishima Island with a height of 215 meters.
You can view the entire breadth of the Seto Inland Sea from its peak.

Mushi (Tsutomu) fort site and
Nakato (Chuto) fort site

These sea forts were built in the center and east side of the Kurushima Strait
to control it.
They were abandoned in 1585. *It is not open to the public. Please observe it from a distance.

Kogayashiki and other nearby historical sites related to the Murakami Kaizoku

Here, the place names are reminiscent of typical fort towns from earlier times.
The area is filled with cultural assets that speak of the prosperity
of the age of the Murakami Kaizoku.

Historic artifacts from the Murakamis of Noshima Island

This collection includes the red “haori” jacket worn by Takeyoshi Murakami.
These important artifacts are kept at the Murakami Suigun Museum in Imabari City.

Pagoda cenotaph at Tomoura Zenpuku Temple and other nearby cultural assets from the middle ages

This pagoda cenotaph at Zenpuku Temple in Tomoura demonstrates the existence of a powerful force that predated the Murakami Kaizoku.

Yoshihiro Murakami grave and Koryuji Temple

Koyruji Temple is said to be the family temple of Yoshihiro Murakami.
Yoshihiro’s grave is located not in the temple itself but on the slope of Kirosan Mountain.
